EARTH DAY SERMON WRITING CONTEST
CHANCE TO WIN > $400.00

WHO:  Anyone, clergy or not, may enter a sermon in the category closest to their spiritual tradition.

WHY: In addressing key moral concerns, such as climate and creation care, it is Michigan’s faith community who needs to have its voice heard and best practices shared.  We want to stimulate the creativity of the faith community in addressing the great moral challenge of our time.

HOW: Write an Earth Day sermon and submit it in writing or on video.  We will also consider Earth Day/Green ideas for worship, separate from a sermon. 

Submitting your sermon on video is optional.
Accepted video formats are:

  • VHS
  • S-VHS
  • Standard 8mm
  • Hi 8mm
  • MiniDV
  • DVD
  • Do not send Digital 8mm

Videos will be posted on the MiIPL.org website.

You may enter in the following categories:

  1. Catholic [Orthodox]
  2. Mainline Protestant
  3. Conservative [Evangelical Protestant]
  4. Jewish
  5. Muslim
  6. Other [Buddhist, Hindu, etc.]

Also, please state your intentions for the money to “green” your house of worship, if you win.  (Some suggestions are: purchase CFLs for your building, retro-fit Exit signs with LEDs, plant an organic garden; organize an Environmental  Fair, organize a community low-carbon café, purchase CFLs for low income community, etc.)

WINNING: Entries will be brought before a panel of judges.  One prize for each category will be awarded.  We are looking for creativity, originality, and inspiration from our diverse faith community.  Winning entries will be posted on the MiIPL website [www.miipl.org]
